Lint the Kitten: April Fund-A-Need

For the month of April, we’re fundraising in an effort to offset the cost to our nonprofit to provide one very special kitten with the ongoing care she needs. Lint is a 10-month-old Siamese kitten who has quickly captured the hearts of our volunteers and staff. Upon intake, we discovered Lint has a neurological condition that inhibits her from standing and walking without difficulty or help. She receives biweekly laser therapy, assistance using the restroom, daily medications, and physical therapy. Consider donating to her fundraiser here.

We spoke with Laura, who has been a volunteer with True Companions since November of 2024, about Lint the kitten and their bond.

Anyone who has met Lint has rightfully fallen in love with her. Those who consider themselves cat people, however, have a deeper bond with her. Read more about Laura’s special connection with Lint in the interview below.

What got you interested in volunteering at True Companions?

My journey of volunteering at True Companions began with a simple love of cats and a desire to give back to the community. What drew me in was the flexibility of the volunteer program – the ability to show up on my own terms made it easy to commit. But the real reward is the time spent with the cats themselves, sitting with them, cuddling them, and gently teaching them that they are worthy of kindness and respect. Small acts of compassion can make a world of difference in an animal’s life.

When we first met Laura, she took quickly to developing a special bond with Tink, a cat who experienced similar symptoms to those that affect Lint.

Tell us about your connection to Tink and the cats:

I first met Tink when I walked past her room and she gave me what was really a smile! Tink is a very memorable cat – she has such a strong personality. Tink has this beautiful, quiet way of demanding attention, and I’ve spent a lot of time just sitting with her and taking her for walks. Tink loves to be in the sun.

My connection to the other cats is really built on trust and routine – making sure they all feel safe, loved and get their necessary cuddles and playtime during my time at the shelter.

Tink’s now living happily in a foster home, where she can continue to receive the dedicated care she needs. Lint currently resides in Tink’s old room in the front lobby of the cat shelter. We asked Laura more about Lint.

What stands out to you about Lint?

What truly sets Lint apart, the moment you meet her, are those eyes! They stop you in your tracks – a shade of blue so beautiful. Once I looked at Lint, she drew me in and I knew I needed to get to know her better. But Lint is more than a pretty face. She carries a personality that fills the room. She loves to play with curiosity and energy and offers her affection openly.

Anything you want Lint’s future true companions to know?

Lint likes to listen to music, watch cat TV, loves to play and cuddle too! I’ve already noticed that Lint thrives with positive interaction and consistency. Because she is so loving and welcoming, I think she would do best in a home that can provide plenty of attention and interactive play time. Her playful side is just as strong as her cuddle side, so a variety of toys would be a great idea! She seems to have a preference for feather wands and anything that involves a good chase.

During my visits, I help Lint practice standing to build strength in her back legs - and I’d love to see others do the same with her.

Until her true companions come to find her, we’ll continue to give Lint the shelter and love she deserves. If you’re interested in donating to help offset the cost to our nonprofit shelter, donate here. All proceeds go directly towards Lint’s continued care.
